La Baule and the region

Historical architecture, salt marshes, Brière Nature Park, castles and religious buildings... take advantage of your stay to venture out on excursions and discover all the local delights:

Walks/rambles
12-km walks are regularly organised along the Wild Coast footpaths. You will finally understand what it really means to be in a Haven of Peace when visiting the typical little harbours like Croisic, Turballe or Piriac.

Croisic Oceanarium
The family experience not to be missed: 2,000 species to discover in the middle of the seas and oceans from around the world. 12 stops: Australian shark house, African penguins (Jackass penguins), Vancouver Island, the lagoons, Belle Ile, the Nautilus, the tunnel, the tactile pool & the nursery.

Guérande Salt Marshes
Over the centuries mankind and the ocean have shaped the Guérande peninsula in south Brittany into the most northern salt marshes in Europe. Several companies offer tours of the marshes to see how they work and learn about the life of the past and present workers, especially the Maison des Paludiers (Saillé), Terre de Sel (Pradel), and the Salt Marsh Museums (Batz-sur-Mer).

Guérande Medieval City
The Guérande fortifications are some of the best preserved in France and date back to the 15th century. 1,300 metres of curtain wall reveal how rapidly the military architecture adapted to the arrival of artillery. Listed as a historical monument since 1877

Brière Nature Park
Brière Nature Park is a wonderful place for outdoor activities such as barge rides/tours. Remarkable sites and scenery, miles of ramblers’ footpaths, mystery paths, bird watching sites and heaps of interesting outings to try out.

Saint-Nazaire STX Tour (old shipyard)
Les chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard is famous thanks to some of the famous ocean transatlantic liners built there, such as the SS France, the Queen Mary and the Foch aircraft carrier, not forgetting the Batillus and Prairial giant oil tankers. A chance to get a closer look at these gigantic shipyards.

Escal' Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire
Escal’ Atlantic is the ocean liner experience that tells you all about ocean liners’ history. The illusion is perfect as you board the almost life-size reconstruction, moored inside two old submarine pens, as a “passenger” for an imaginary cruise.

Saint-Nazaire Airbus Tour
The Saint-Nazaire site is one of the Airbus’s main centres of excellence. In vast hangers, and in impressively clear and quiet conditions, the front sections and central fuselages for all the Airbuses, including the famous A380, are assembled, fitted and tested. The Aeronautic industry was set up in Saint-Nazaire in the 1920s, in an effort to diversify naval construction. Find out how it worked during the guided tour (leaves the submarine base by coach)*.

Planète Sauvage at Saint-Père en Retz
A 200-acre nature park home to around 1,000 animals and 150 different species.
Expect to spend the whole day: the Safari (2 hours), the Dolphins (30 minutes), the tour on foot including the Jungle Course and the Bush Village (90 minutes)
